Currículum

Javier G. Sanabria holds a Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Environmental Sciences from the University of Granada and an International Doctor in Sciences from the University of Cádiz. He has three Master’s Degree Programmes: a Master’s Degree Programme in integrated management of coastal areas, a Master’s Degree Programme in development cooperation and project management, and an Official Master’s Degree Programme in Oceanography. He is coordinator of the Training Commission of INDESS and member of the Council of the Institute. He has been recognized with the Award for the best Master’s thesis awarded by the Mapfre Foundation and the UCA, as well as the HUMAN awards for the transfer of knowledge and the Distinction to environmental commitment granted to the research group by the Junta de Andalucía in 2015.

 

He is an expert in the disciplines of integrated management of coastal areas and marine spatial planning, and author of several books and articles on the subject in national and international scientific journals. He is also a reviewer of the international magazines “Ocean & Coastal Management” and “Journal of Coastal Management”, and has been a member of the scientific committee of the II Ibero-American Congress of Integrated Gestao of Litorais Areas (Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. May 2016). Author of multiple papers, communications and publications in minutes of local, national and international congresses and seminars. He has participated in local projects, with the Andalucía-Atlántico Coastal Demarcation in Cádiz or, more recently, coordinating the participatory process for integration of port lands in the City of Cádiz as well as in national projects, such as the project of the Spanish Network of Integrated Management of Litoral Areas (REGIAL), the advice for the installation of offshore wind energy off the coast of Cádiz (Cruces del Mar project, UCA and MAGTEL SA), or the most recent, the formulation of the Strategy of Integrated Management of the Mar Menor (Murcia). Among the international projects, the creation and coordination in its first stage of the Ibero-American Integrated Coastal Management Network (IBERMAR), the European project CIT (Center for innovation and technology in cross-border Andalusia-Morocco tourism), or the most recent project European Marsp (Marine Spatial Planning in Macaronesia), which will be developed over the next two years in the area of ​​the archipelagos of the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands. He has made research stays in England under the direction of Professor Mike Elliott, at the Institute for Estuarine and Coastal Studies, IECS, of the University of Hull; and at the University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, under the direction of Dr. Marinez Sherer.

 

He has been director of three doctoral courses, and is a lecturer of various subjects in the Bachelor’s Degree Programmes of Tourism (Tourism Territorial Resources and Cultural Tourism Itineraries) and Humanities (Planning and Territorial Management of Culture). He is coordinator of the module of “Marine Spatial Planning” of the Official Postgraduate Master in Integrated Management of Coastal Areas. Lecturer of the Master’s Degree Programme in “Integrated Management of Coastal Areas”; “Conservation and Management of the Natural Environment” and the Master’s Degree Programme in “Heritage, Archeology and Maritime History”.
